The Dohl is a percussion instrument that is traditional to Indian culture. It is a double ended barrel drum – although some forms of the Dhol may have straight sides. The heads can be either synthetic or made of goat skin or raw hide. The Dohl is tuned with the use of bolts. It is considered as similar to the “Dholka”, otherwise known as the American Dhol, it is also similar to the pan-american instrument the Tambora. In Qawwali music, the term Dhol is usually refers to a similar but smaller drum that is used with the smaller tabla drum as a replacement for the left hand tabla drum.
Dhols tend to vary in sizes depending on the region they originate from. The difference in sizes came about to accommodate the different needs of the instrument players. Dhols found in Punjab are generally smaller because they need to fit the needs of player who tend to do energetic dances while playing the instrument, while in India and Pakistan the Dhol remains big in order to preserve its loud bass tone. The Dhol is used as a traditional accompaniment to traditional dances like the Punjabi dance of the Bhangra, the traditional dance of the Gujarat, Raas and the religious music of Sufism, Qawwali.
The rum structure is composed of a barrel (traditionally made of wood) and its open ends are covered in goat skin, any other animal hide or with a synthetic material. The tone of the Dhol is adjusted with the use of interlaced ropes located on its sides or with the use of nuts and bolts. The degree of tightness of the skin can sufficiently alter the tone of the instrument. People who play the Dhol are referred to as “Dohl players” or Dholis. In modern Punjabi music, Dhols with synthetic coverings are commonplace. A smaller version of the Dhol is known as the Dholka or the Dholki.
Traditionally, the Dhol is played with the use of two wooden sticks, which are most of the time made of bamboo and cane wood. The American Dohl is played with the hands and is placed in between the knees or on the lap of the player.
The Dhol is a very important historically. Before the advent of electronically recorded music Dhol players were much sought after in India and they were asked in play in both formal and informal events. Other than in India, the Dohl has gained much popularity in Fiji, the United Kingdom, and Australia as well as in North America.

Additionally, I have the original provenance and sales receipt, appraisal and can also have the owner write a letter transferring ownership. An Absolutely Stunning ,Priceless Painted Blanket Chest From The New York Or Connecticut Area. To say it is “Museum Quality” would be an understatement. It is GORGEOUS and a very Folky Primitive Piece.It Would ba an outstanding piece to add to your home or shop. It is in Totally Original Overall Condition. This New England Blanket Chest is Second to none,as in “there are none finer !!!! The Paint Shows proper Surface Patina ,Wear and is very dry ,with some alligatoring. The underside of the lid has many names and dates ,most are illedgeable ,but I can make out “1787″ amd “Anna Crane & M. Crane”. The Chest dates to the 1750 -1780 time frame ,and is in near perfect condition,and it’s 100% pure Americana. It needs nothing and is ready to use !!!! The Brick Red paint is original to the piece ,and has NO touchups of any kind. The chest has NO repairs .The Drawer is Dovetailed and The nails on the Piece are Hand Wrought Iron Rose Heads,some are Dime Sized. The most noticeable feature is the 3 Hearted Carved Skirt, it is priceless !!!! The Blanket Chest is very generous in size ,and will hold a lot of your things with ease. It measures 54 3/8″ across the front x 36 1/4″ high x 19 1/2″ deep. The Strap Hinges ,Rare 2 Stage Grab Lock ,Keeper ,and Chippendale handles are all original to the Chest,it even comes with it’s original Key !!!! The oxidation of the exposed wood is very dark ,and correct for it’s age. This is obviously a “one of a kind” Piece,and has a Conservative Value of 10,000.00-15,000.00,in an upscale shop much ,much higher. I have the reserve set in a price area where it is very affordable ,If you can buy it at the reserve ,it will be a steal !!! Up for auction and fresh to the market out of a old wealthy estate comes this Spectacular Fine 19th Century Oil painting on Canvas by a well listed  British Artist: Joseph Milner Kite (1862-1946)..There are several artprice websites that have about 88 auction prices listed for his paintings with a wide range in price too..A few have sold in the $10,000 to $20,000 price range and others in the $3,000 to $5,000 price range…just depends on the subject matter. And I found one of his painting for sale currently in an Art gallery of “2 women in a hammock” for $25,000…

This Painting is of 2 young girls walking down a garden path, one girl is in the back ground while the other is half way down the path and admiring some Orange Tiger Lily’s..The painting is signed and dated in the left hand corner: J Milner Kite 1893? is what it looks like to me. The Painting is large: It measures with out the Frame: 31-3/4″ tall by 19″ wide….With the Frame its: 36-1/2″ tall by 23-1/2″ wide…The painting as you see in untouched and no attempt was made to clean it..The frame on the other hand looks to be original but has been Striped down to the bare wood at some point in time as you can still see traces of old gesso and it now has a white wash look to it…The painting is in Excellent condition..There are No Holes, Rips or Tears and there are no repairs…There is a very small tiny paint flake off 3/4 down the painting below the dress in the shadowed path part (see photo) and that’s it…There is some lite crackle crazing in the path part and a little up in the right corner in some of the green foliage and the painting to my knowledge has never been been cleaned so it will most likely need a good professional cleaning…The back of the painting is still quite dusty as seen the photo’s and There is some pencil writing on the back that i can not make out (see photo) and that’s pretty much it…The painting is what it is and its Magnificent! And as always with my auctions, No Reserve! This absolutley incredible piece is probably one of the rarest seen on Ebay. It has extensive research provided by internationally known Professionals in the art industry such as Sara Kinch “BFA in Studio Art and BA in Art as Theory” as well as PHD in Art History Daniel Hersh. It has been appraised at $50,000 by Sara Kinch with a replacement value of $60,000. At first I was examining the possibilities of selling through Sothebys or Christies until I was informed by some of my friends in the industry that they are extremely expensive and can sometimes take a awhile before a piece even goes up for sale, Gallery’ especially in my area can charge 50% or more, obviously I dont want to get ripped off or waste months going through all the processes and money.
